Photographers are often inspired by other artists all the time, but in these case it might be too similar to be referred to as inspiration. The lighting, setting, props, and even many of the poses are exactly the same. Both even feature swans. Is this a case of one photographer being inspired by or paying homage to another, or is it plagiarism?
Have a look at those two sets done by different artists.
First one, called Woodpecker is done by brilliant Jeff Bark already several years ago and the second set is from the new Fall/Winter 2011 issue of Love magazine called ëWhat Lies Beneathí, an editorial by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott.
Fashion, like all forms of art, is often based on recycled ideas ñ itís about taking something and making your adjustments to it, tweaking it, contributing to its evolution; before setting it free again into the big wide world. If thereís no evolution, if the concept is merely replicated and returned without change, itís not art. Itís copying.
